Accomplished diversity and equity leader DeWayne Street will become the district’s first Chief of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Street comes to Leander ISD from Round Rock ISD where he served in the same inaugural role. The Board of Trustees approved the recommendation during Thursday night’s board meeting.
“I’m thrilled the district has taken this crucial step in accomplishing the vision and mission the Board has established to cultivate each student individually to produce the most sought-after creators of our future world,” said Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. “Mr. Street has demonstrated throughout his career that he understands change management and can effectively use tools and resources to help organizations understand and work towards meeting the unique needs of each and every individual in the system.”
Street brings a wealth of experience including a career in education as a high school teacher in Wisconsin. His leadership with the state of Wisconsin’s Department of Corrections, Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, and Equus Workforce Solutions ushered the creation of his own consulting firm. As a diversity consultant for more than 20 years, Street has helped organizations conceive inclusive workplace environments as well as create pathways to strategically achieve it.
“I am honored to join Leander ISD and to be part of such a great team and community,” Street said. “I look forward to learning from all stakeholders and to continuing my journey as a reflective practitioner, one who is focused on being better tomorrow than I am today.
When it comes to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, I have found this to be a very effective approach and one that calls people in, not out. Reflective practice does not require a person to be perfect, only intentional about learning and growing. This is something that we can all do and I am eager to join you on our journey.”
With a master’s degree in Adult Continuing Education from Northern Illinois University, Street initially earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Political Science, and Education from Alabama State University.

El experimentado líder en diversidad y equidad, DeWayne Street se convierte en el primer Jefe de Diversidad, Equidad e Inclusión del distrito. El Sr. Street viene a Leander ISD del distrito de Round Rock ISD donde él sirvió en este mismo rol inaugural. “Estoy muy emocionado que el distrito haya tomado este paso crucial en lograr la visión y misión que ha establecido la Junta Directiva de cultivar a cada estudiante individualmente para ser los creadores más apetecidos de nuestro mundo futuro”, dijo el Superintendente Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. “El Sr. Street ha demostrado a lo largo de su carrera que él entiende el cambio administrativo y puede usar efectivamente los recursos y herramientas para ayudar a las organizaciones a entender y trabajar hacia la meta de cumplir las necesidades únicas de cada individuo en el sistema”.
Street trae una vasta experiencia que abarca una carrera en educación como maestro de preparatoria en Wisconsin. Su liderazgo con el Departamento de Correccionales del estado de Wisconsin, Goodwill Industries of Central Texas y Equus Workforce Solutions lo motivó a crear su propia firma de consultoría. Como consultor en diversidad por más de 20 años, Street ha llevado a organizaciones a repensarse como ambientes de trabajo incluyentes, así como a crear caminos estratégicos para alcanzarlo.
“Me siento honrado de unirme a Leander ISD y ser parte de un gran equipo y comunidad”, dijo Street. “Yo busco aprender de cada uno de los miembros de este equipo y continuar mi trayecto como un aprendiz reflexivo, uno que se enfoca en ser mejor mañana que lo que soy el día de hoy”.
Cuando se trata de asuntos de diversidad, equidad e inclusión, he encontrado que un enfoque efectivo es el que llama la gente a integrarse, no a separarse. La práctica reflexiva no requiere que una persona sea perfecta, solo intencional acerca de aprender y crecer. Esto es algo que todos podemos hacer y estoy ansioso de unirme a ustedes en esta travesía”.
Con un grado de maestría en Educación Continua para Adultos de la Northern Illinois University, Street inicialmente obtuvo un diploma de pregrado en Historia, Ciencias Políticas y Educación de Alabama State University.
