As the school year winds into form, this issue of The Compass has two standout examples of what we mean when we say “ownership of learning” – one example from students and the other from a staff member. Also included inside, we have 🎓Class of 2025 graduation dates hot off the presses.

Excitement levels on the first day of school never disappoint! And when we get to open a brand new elementary school, the first day takes on an even greater significance – shoutout to Hisle Elementary School. We’re less than two weeks from the start of the 2024–25 school year, so that calls for a special Back-to-School issue of The Compass newsletter to kick things off! This issue is packed with important information about the coming school year. We cannot wait to welcome families back into our doors on Aug. 14! 

Summer has arrived! ☀️ Although school is out, there are still things happening around #1LISD, including summer meals, athletic and academic summer camps, and other summer learning opportunities. This final issue of the 2023–24 Compass contains summer information as well as recent student accomplishments.
