Leander ISD Superintendent Dan Troxell, Ph.D., announced Kristen Alex as the new principal of Cypress Elementary School School Monday, April 30.

“I am excited to announce Kristen Alex as the new principal for Cypress Elementary School,” Troxell said. “While Kristen is a strong instructional leader who is driven to develop systems focused on helping all students achieve their potential, what makes her stand out is her ability to do this while building a positive learning culture where all stakeholders feel valued and supported.”

Alex began her career in education in 1996, working as a teacher and coach in Lake Travis ISD. She later taught at the secondary level in Somerville and Gonzales ISDs. From 2001-2006, Alex served as an education coordinator and special education teacher at the University of Texas Charter School Texas NeuroRehab Center. Alex joined LISD in 2011 as a special education instruction assistant at River Place Elementary School. She later became the special education team lead at Grandview Hills Elementary School, where she currently serves as assistant principal.

“I am honored to have been chosen to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education in Leander ISD,” Alex said. “I am excited to meet the students, staff and parents of Cypress Elementary and look forward to partnering with each of you in our campus’ educational journey.”

Alex earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas State University and her master’s degree from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
