After continued collaboration with local emergency management, facilities and transportation staff, and local officials, Leander ISD will operate on a 2-hour delay Wednesday, Jan. 28, due to lingering freezing temperatures and potential for icy conditions early in the morning.

This delayed start provides additional time for the sun to help warm shaded areas and increase visibility. It also gives additional time in the morning for our crews and campus leaders to finalize preparations for a safe school day.

Forecasts show conditions improving as the morning progresses, and no widespread road issues are expected. However, we still urge families and staff to exercise caution during their commute — particularly on bridges, overpasses, and sidewalks where slick spots may remain. Any bus delays will be communicated directly to impacted routes through SMART Tag.

Our Facilities and Operations teams have worked tirelessly over the past few days to assess and clear campuses to the best of their ability. While the inside of our buildings are in good condition, ice buildup on some sidewalks and ramps continue to be a challenge.

As always, student and staff safety is our top priority. We also trust families and staff to make the best decisions for their circumstances if travel in your area remains unsafe. Student tardies will be excused with a parent note. For staff, we ask them to reach out to their campus or department leader.

Adjusted Start Times

  • Elementary schools: 9:30 a.m. (doors open at 9:10 a.m.)
  • High schools: 10:15 a.m. (doors open at 9:45 a.m.)
    Note: Early College HS follows the middle school schedule. Additional information to follow for ECHS families from the campus.
  • Middle schools: 11:05 a.m. (doors open at 10:35 a.m.)

Other Key Information

  • Buses will run on a 2-hour delay.
  • All before-school activities are canceled.
  • Child Nutrition Services will have cereal and milk available for breakfast.

The adjusted schedule for early childhood and prekindergarten programs will be:

  • PreK 3 Morning Class: Canceled
  • PreK 3 Afternoon Class: Normal schedule, 11:45 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
  • PreK 4: Late start at 9:30 a.m.
  • ELE with 10:30 a.m. dismissal: Canceled
  • ELE/E-SLE with 1:05 p.m. dismissal: Late start at 9:30 a.m., dismissal at 1:05 p.m.
  • ELE Friends: Late start at 9:30 a.m., dismissal at 4:40 p.m. 
  • PSLP Early Morning Session: Canceled
  • PSLP Late Morning Session: Normal schedule, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
