Every March, Leander ISD recognizes National Athletic Training Month with the purpose of honoring students dedicated to the health and safety of our student-athletes. Our district will feature two athletic trainers as our Student-Athletes of the week during this month–one from every high school campus. We are excited to applaud the contributions of these outstanding students!

Vandegrift High School junior Nevaeh Vergara

Showcasing strength in sports and smarts, Vandegrift High School junior Nevaeh Vergara is an all-star. She assists in football, boys and girls basketball and baseball. Nevaeh’s hard work extends to the classroom, too, as she has consistently earned a spot on the honor roll for the past three years.

“Nevaeh is the kind of kid we never have to worry about,” Vandegrift High School athletic trainer Chris Shivers said. “She will always do the right thing without being corrected. Her attitude and work ethic spreads to her peers.”

Cedar Park High School senior Jenny Roman

When a leadership opportunity emerged, Cedar Park High School senior Jenny Roman rose to the occasion. For the past three years, she has supported football, baseball, girls soccer and wrestling at CPHS. Outside the field of play, Jenny is a member of the National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and participates with church groups.

“Jenny is an amazing leader who helps shape our underclassmen,” Cedar Park High School athletic trainer Stefany Austin said. “Not having seniors in our program last year, Jenny was one of the juniors who grew into a leadership position. Coaches have nothing but amazing things to say about Jenny.”

Congratulations to our Leander ISD Student-Athletes of the Week, Jenny Roman and Nevaeh Vergara!
