Lonestar Company at Vista Ridge High School’s marksmanship team brought home a championship this weekend.

The team qualified to compete in the Navy JROTC Area-10 State Championship by winning a qualifying match earlier this fall. The top 12 schools from the fall qualifying match competed Dec. 12-14, 2019, at Granbury High School in Granbury, Texas, for the title of Navy JROTC Area-10 State Champions.

Not only is the team number one, but they have four of the best marksmen in the State! Emily Toro finished ranked 1st overall in the State, Ethan Smith is 4th, Aidan Gutierrez is 5th, and Leo Herman finished 6th. There were 290 competitors from Navy JROTC Area-10.

What’s next for the team? Their victory has earned them the right to compete for the Navy National Championship (Service Championship) in Chandler (Phoenix), Arizona, Feb. 2020. The Lone Star Company will be one of 21 teams competing for the Service Championship. There are 583 NJROTC programs in the country, so winning State and qualifying for the Service Championship is an impressive accomplishment.
