Leander ISD would like to congratulate Vandegrift High School senior Evan Welliver for being named LISD’s Fine Arts Student of the Week.

Evan has also distinguished himself as a talented musician. He has been cast in multiple leading and supporting roles in school musicals, most recently as Shrek in Shrek the Musical and Rapunzel’s Prince in Into the Woods. He has also performed as a part of the Butler Opera Center Young Artist Program in leading roles in opera scenes. As a vocalist, Evan has performed in Vandegrift’s choir program all four years of high school, and has been a member of chamber choir for three years. He has competed in competitions across the state, being named a finalist in the Vandegrift Solo Contest and the Schmidt Vocal Competition. He was selected as a winner of the 2017 and 2018 Vandegrift Solo Contest, an encouragement award winner at the Schmidt Vocal Competition, a scholarship winner of the SMART Opera Competition, and First Place winner at the NATS Student Audition. Evan is a two-year member of the TMEA All-State Mixed Choir, being ranked 2nd chair Bass 2 in 2017 and 1st chair Bass 2 in 2018. He recently was granted an audition for the prestigious Nordan Young Artists Scholarship at Texas Christian University, a full-tuition award. Evan will be attending Baylor University in the fall to study vocal performance on a full scholarship.

Evan has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school career while taking a heavy AP course load. This year he was named a National Merit Semifinalist as a result of his score on the 2016 PSAT. He is also member of National Honor Society and PALs, two organizations dedicated to service and the betterment of the community.

Leander ISD is proud to recognize Evan Welliver as our LISD Fine Arts Student of the Week.
