Leander ISD is proud to announce Vandegrift High School’s Madeline Smyser as the Fine Arts Student of the Week.

Smyser has taken part in the choir program for all four years of high school. She was one of only four freshman selected to be in the Varsity Chorale Women TMEA and SWACDA Honor Choir. In 2019, the Varsity Chorale Women will attend the NACDA conference to perform as an honor choir.  Madeline has also participated in the All-State Choir process, advancing to the Region Choir in 2016 and 2018. Now, as a senior, she serves as the head officer of the choir program.

Smyser is also an excellent student. The senior will graduate Distinguished with Honors in the top 13% of her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a volunteer at the Bee Cave Public Library. She is also recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar.

Next fall, Madeline will attend Baylor University to study Entrepreneurship. She plans to join choir, as she cannot imagine her life without music, thanks to her incredible experience with the Vandegrift Choir program.

“Madeline Smyser is a kind, uplifting, and self-motivated student,” Vandergrift Choir Director Michael Zook said. “She puts her full energy into everything she invests in, and her investment extends outside of herself and to those around her. She understands that success is a commitment to the community and goes far beyond personal gain.”
