Leander ISD would like to congratulate Cedar Park High School’s Mathew James for being named the LISD Fine Arts Student of the Week.
Mathew is a 2-time TMEA All-State honoree as a tenor 2, sang tenor 1 in the school’s TMEA Honor Choir and sings baritone and lead in the CHPS barbershop group, Pitch Black. He is a 2-time member of the All-State Mixed Choir and a TSSEC Gold Medalist the last three years (and has qualified for the competition again this June).
“Mathew is dedicated and loyal to the choir program and understands what it takes to be an excellent musician and leader,” CPHS Choir Director Lisa Holt said. “His understanding of musical concepts is superior and he constantly seeks out opportunities to learn more about the meaning of a piece. He assists other choir students in preparation for contests and auditions and can always be found teaching someone a barbershop “tag” to harmonize with.”
