The Cedar Park High School and Rouse High School marching bands competed in the UIL Class 5A Area D Marching Band Contest Saturday, Oct. 28, at Gupton Stadium. CPHS finished in second place, RHS finished in fourth place, and both bands qualified for the State Marching Band Contest.
The State Marching Band Contest for Class 5A will be held at the Alamodome on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The UIL State competition follows an every-other-year format, with Class 1A, 3A and 5A competing in the odd years and Class 2A, 4A and 6A competing in the even years. This year’s state contest will be a chance for LISD bands to defend their titles as the top 5A bands in Texas since 2011.
The last time out for 5A in 2015, Leander ISD bands accomplished a first for the UIL State Marching Band competition: they took home the top four spots, with Cedar Park High School edging out Vandegrift High School for the top spot, and Leander High School and Vista Ridge High School finishing in third and fourth place, respectively.
In 2013, Leander ISD bands finished as the top three 5A bands in Texas, with VHS, CPHS and VRHS taking first place, second place and third place, respectively.
In 2011, when 4A was UIL’s second-highest classification level, CPHS was tops in Texas.
Good luck to our bands!
