The Leander ISD Board of Trustees voted to adopt the recommended academic calendar for 2019–20. The Board also announced the 2020–21 calendar, with formal approval slated for November Β 2019, pending changes from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

The calendar for next year includes the following features:

  • Aug. 15 start date with a short first week;
  • the last day of school on May 29;
  • more balanced semesters;
  • professional learning during the school year; and
  • a Spring Break that aligns with the University of Texas at Austin.

The adoption of the calendars follows an extensive effort to collect community feedback, resulting in nearly 5,000 survey responses.

β€œWe listened when our community expressed a strong preference for the district to produce calendars for consecutive school years,” Trustee Pamela Waggoner said. β€œOur focus continues to be on a schedule that supports students’ academic growth, as well as supporting our families and teachers with a timely approval process. I believe this effort accomplishes both of theseΒ goals.”
