Due to the extreme heatwave we are experiencing across Texas, the University Interscholastic League has again made recommendations regarding football game start times. The district has decided to delay kickoff by a half-hour. Games will start at 7:30 p.m.

This change will allow teams to adjust the time of pregame warmups to later in the day and play more of the game as the sun goes down and the temperature begins to drop. Due to the change in start time, stadium gates will open at 6:30 p.m. to help spectators avoid the most extreme part of the heat. As of right now, the later kickoff time will impact games on Thursday, Sept. 7, and Friday, Sept. 8, at Bible Stadium and Gupton Stadium.

Athletic Trainers have plans in place to help with heat issues for our athletes, coaches and officials. Coaches from both teams and officials will communicate prior to the game about potentially adding extended breaks between quarter and mid-quarter official timeouts to allow for extra hydration.

Bands will not be in marching uniforms and will have access to their individual water jugs full of water at all times.

Moving back the kickoff was one option we felt best applied to these varsity games at LISD stadiums. For all outdoor events, our coaches and athletic trainers will work together to utilize other options like shortening quarters, extending halftime and more timeouts to allow for extra hydration.

We will continue to closely monitor these extreme conditions and make adjustments as necessary.
