Leander ISD Athletics is proud to announce Ellie Mattox from Vandegrift High School as the first Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2022-2023 school year. Mattox is a senior captain of the Lady Viper varsity volleyball team, and she has achieved significant success both on and off the field.

“Ellie Mattox is a leader on the court, in the locker room and in the classroom,” Melissa Southall, Vandegrift’s head volleyball coach, said. “She motivates her teammates daily in practice and in competition.”

In 2021, Ellie led Texas 6A schools in most assists for the class of 2023 setters and was named to the 25-6A All-District First Team, Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All Star Team and the Prep Dig Texas All-State Team. According to Southall, it was because of Mattox’s outstanding leadership and volleyball skills that she was named to the Westwood Warrior Showcase All-Tournament team by opponent coaches.

But Mattox’s accomplishments don’t stop with athletics. She scored a 1500 on her SAT and was named to the Academic All-District teams in both 2020 and 2021. She has also been a member of Future Health Professionals (HOSA) for three years.

Mattox has committed to play volleyball for Dartmouth after graduating from VHS in 2023.
