Jessica Cruz at Rutledge Elementary is the Leander ISD Staff Spotlight of the Week.

Jess serves as the team leader for the fourth grade teaching team, which happens to be the largest team on Rutledge’s campus. Despite the team facing major staffing changes this school year, Jess has led the team with a focus on empowering students to be leaders in the world.

Jess and her team have implemented project-based learning in a way that creates passion and joy for all of their students. One example of this is that they have students combine a community service project with their academic learning by researching charitable organizations and then raising funds to support them.

Jess also finds interesting ways to bring learning to life. On Women’s Suffrage Day, she dressed as a famous suffragist.

“Jessica is committed to the well being and academics of every fourth grade student and staff member,” Rutledge Principal Beth Mohler said. “Her passion and care shine a bright light for all.”
