More than 700 Leander ISD students gained real-world experience in professional settings as a part of the district’s annual internship program, Career Opportunities on Location (COOL).
Now in its 23rd year, COOL Week offers LISD seniors a unique on-site job experience in a wide variety of fields. Students learn about the skills, education, and attributes needed for a particular career. The program focuses on students going through an interview process and applying skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving.
“Many of our former COOL Week students from years past are now employed by our business partners,” COOL Week Coordinator Pat Lopez said. “Businesses enjoy the reverse mentoring concept through connecting with our students. Each party learns from the other.”
