Greeted by a drumline and dancers from across the district, community members gathered to dedicate Stacy Kaye Danielson Middle School.
With members of the Leander ISD Board of Trustees in attendance as well as Superintendent Gearing, Principal Mark Koller led the ceremony which honored the life of the school’s namesake. Danielson taught dance at Cedar Park High School for 17 years. She lost her battle with cancer in 2018. Her parents and two sons appeared on stage with other dignitaries present. Stacy’s mother Sandy Lawrence offered remarks about what it means to “Live the Stacy Kaye Way” through investing, encouraging and impacting the DMS community.
After the ceremony, the community toured the school which reflects the district’s dedication to collaborative spaces. Many hallways double as study and group work areas. Modular glass walls offer a transparent look into classrooms. The project team includes American Constructors, Fields and Associates, MEP Engineering, ATKINS and Raba Kistner Consultants.
The 210,000-square-foot building became the district’s ninth middle school. Located in north Leander, the school sits across the street from Glenn High School. Funding for the project came from a $454 million bond package passed in 2017.
