The Leander ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Josh Haug as the new principal of Leander Middle School on Thursday at the Dec. 12 Board meeting.

“I am excited to announce Josh Haug as the next principal for Leander Middle School,” said Leander ISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. “He is a former student of Leander Middle School and a graduate of Leander ISD and has worked his entire educational career in our district. He is a proven leader, one ready to build upon the incredible culture and traditions that have been established at Leander Middle School and continue to enhance teaching and learning for all. Josh is an effective, approachable communicator, and he has developed a superb track record of successful collaboration among teachers, staff, parents and community members.”

Haug comes to Leander Middle School from Rouse High School, where he has served as the associate principal since 2018. Prior to that, Haug was an assistant principal at RHS starting in 2017 and an assistant principal at Wiley Middle School from 2015–2017. He began his career in education in 2006 as a teacher at Vista Ridge High School, later serving as a teacher and coach at Canyon Ridge Middle School from 2006–2008 and a teacher and coach at VRHS from 2008–2015.

“As a student in the first graduating class of Leander Middle School, I am honored to be returning almost 25 years later as principal,” Haug said. “LMS is a community with a history of excellence and a culture of inclusivity. I am excited about working with this incredible learning community to build on all of their successes. I am dedicated to creating an environment where our students will tap into their interests and passions so their love of learning will flourish. LMS has always been a special place, and I can’t wait to be a part of it again.”

Haug earned a bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University.
