2021-2022 Human Sexuality Curriculum Update: Parents must Opt-In now

In Leander ISD, students in Grades 7–9 are taught Human Sexuality Curriculum through presentations by LifeGuard, an independent organization. 

LISD believes that sexuality education begins at home. Parents or legal guardians are the primary educators of their children and can be the most important influence on your child’s health decisions. The lessons your child will receive in school are designed to reinforce what a parent or legal guardian is teaching at home, not to replace it.

2021-22 Update: During the 87th Texas Legislation, a new bill (Texas House Bill 1525) was adopted that requires parents or legal guardians to opt-in their students to participate in the Human Sexuality curriculum.  Please see the Notification Letters & Opt-In Forms below to opt your student in.

Opting-In: 

Participation in the human sexuality curriculum is voluntary. Parents or legal guardians must “opt-in” their student for the lessons by ONE of the following options:

1. Complete the Google Form found at their student’s campus website (click below):

2. Print and return a signed parent letter found on the Leander ISD Human Sexuality website.
3. Provide written request (email their student’s teacher indicated in the parent letter above)

Parent Preview: 

Parents or legal guardians will be provided two options to preview the LifeGuard curriculum documents and teaching materials.  

• Request an electronic preview via the LifeGuard website (Parent Preview Request Form).
• Contact their student’s school librarian to schedule an appointment to view a printed copy.

Parent Workshops:

LISD will be hosting several informational workshops that give an overview of the Character and Sexuality Curriculum presented by LifeGuard.

The LifeGuard parent workshops are designed to give parents or legal guardians helpful tips for communicating with their children (grades 7-9) about human sexuality, allow them to review the curriculum, explore statistics from health officials and ask questions of LIfeGuard and LISD staff.

ACTUALIZACIÓN SOBRE EL CURRÍCULO DE SEXUALIDAD HUMANA -AÑO ESCOLAR 2021-2022: LOS PADRES DEBEN CONFIRMAR AHORA SU PARTICIPACIÓN

En Leander ISD los estudiantes en los grados 7° a 9° se les enseña un currículo de Sexualidad Humana a través de presentaciones realizadas por LifeGuard, una organización independiente.

LISD cree que la educación sexual comienza en casa. Los padres o tutores legales son los principales educadores de sus niños y pueden ser la influencia más importante en las decisiones de salud de su niño(a). Las lecciones que su niño(a) recibirá en la escuela están diseñadas para reforzar lo que un padre o tutor legal está enseñando en casa, no para reemplazarlo.

Actualización para 2021-2022: Durante la 87° sesión legislativa de Texas, una nueva ley (Texas House Bill 1525) fue adoptada, la cual requiere que los padres o tutores legales confirmen que sus estudiantes participarán en el currículo de Sexualidad Humana. Por favor ver las cartas de notificación y los formularios de confirmación de participación de su estudiante aquí debajo.

Confirmar su participación – Opting in:

La participación en el currículo de sexualidad humana es voluntaria. Los padres o tutores legales deben “confirmar” que si quieren que su estudiante participe de las lecciones por UNA de las siguientes opciones:

1. Llenar el formulario Google que se encuentra publicado en la escuela de su estudiante (hacer clic debajo):

2. Imprima y devuelva la carta firmada por los padres que se encuentra publicada en Leander ISD Human Sexuality website.
3. Proporcionar una solicitud por escrito (enviar un correo electrónico al maestro de su estudiante indicado en la carta anterior)

Revisión de padres de familia:

Los padres o guardianes legales tendrán dos opciones para revisar los documentos del currículo de LifeGuard y materiales de enseñanza.

• Solicitar una revisión electrónica a través de la página web de LifeGuard (Solicitud de revisión para padres)
• Contactar a la bibliotecaria de su escuela para programar una cita para revisar una copia impresa.

Talleres para padres de familia:        

LISD realizará varios talleres informativos para dar una visión general al currículo sobre Carácter y Sexualidad Humana presentado por LifeGuard.

Los talleres para padres de LifeGuard están diseñados para dar a los padres o tutores legales consejos útiles de comunicación con sus niños (grados 7° a 9°) acerca de la sexualidad humana, permitiéndoles revisar el currículo, explorar las estadísticas de los funcionarios de salud y hacer preguntas a los representantes de LifeGuard y al personal de LISD.
