Leander ISD Superintendent Dan Troxell, Ph.D., announced Tracie Montanio as the principal of the district’s new elementary school Thursday, Oct. 25.

“I am proud to welcome Tracie as the inaugural leader of LISD’s new elementary school,” Troxell said. “Tracie has demonstrated an ability to create a campus learning culture that sets high expectations and promotes learning for all students, teachers and staff. I am confident she will cultivate a positive learning environment that will establish a strong foundation for this campus.”

Elementary School 27 will be located in the Larkspur subdivision in Leander and will open in the fall of 2019. Neighborhood codes 110, 1005 and 1110 previously zoned for Plain Elementary School will attend Elementary School 27. Additional attendance zoning information

Montanio has worked her entire educational career in Leander ISD. She began her career in 2004 as a teacher at Giddens Elementary School and later served as an instructional coach at the same campus. In 2012, she joined River Place Elementary School as an assistant principal. Montanio has been the principal of Westside Elementary School since 2014.

“I am beyond excited for this opportunity to partner with the community to open a wonderful new school,” Montanio said. “I look forward to building traditions, a positive school culture and high expectations for students. I have no doubt that together we can create another amazing school in Leander ISD!”

Montanio earned a bachelor’s degree in education – and later dual master’s degrees in elementary education and educational leadership – from Texas State University. LISD is committed to ensuring that Westside is in good hands and will begin working to find Westside’s next leader. Montanio will remain at Westside during this transition process and will begin her new role as the principal of Elementary School 27 on Jan. 7.
