Two years ago, Canyon Ridge Middle School’s Nihar Janga became the youngest winner in the history of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The seventh-grade standout will soon get another shot at a national title at the National Geographic Bee.

Nihar and three other LISD students competed at the State National Geographic Competition in Bedford last Friday. In the finals, Nihar battled through seven rounds of tie-breakers to finally secure the championship. Now it’s on to the nation’s capital.

The 30th National Geographic Bee will be May 20-23 at National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C. Learn more at nationalgeographic.org/bee.
