Cypress Elementary School Principal Kristen Alex will transition to the role of Area Superintendent after the Board of Trustees approved her position at Thursday’s meeting.

Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., described Alex as a passionate leader who is dedicated to serving the students, staff and community of Leander ISD.

“Kristen’s unwavering focus on exceptional learning for every student and her experience as a teacher, coach, mentor and principal brings additional strength to our already impressive team,” Gearing said. “Kristen will be an invaluable asset to not only the campuses she will serve, but to the district as a whole.”

Alex has extensive experience in the field of education at the elementary, middle and high school level. She began her teaching career in 1996 in Lake Travis, Somerville and Gonzales school districts, and then worked as a special education teacher and education coordinator at Texas NeuroRehab University Charter School. She entered LISD in 2011 as a special education instructional assistant at River Place Elementary. She has since served in LISD leadership roles for nearly a decade, first as the assistant principal at Grandview Hills Elementary IB World School and then most recently as the Cypress Elementary School principal.

“I’m incredibly excited to be given the opportunity to serve LISD in the capacity of Area Superintendent,” Alex said. “I look forward to the opportunity to support our campus principals as they lead their campuses and partner with our community in the journey of continuous improvement towards educational excellence.”

Alex attended Texas State University for her undergraduate degree, receiving a Bachelors of Science with a major in psychology and minor in biology. She completed her Masters of Educational Leadership at the University of Texas Permian Basin.
