Senior Rachel Song at Rouse High School is the Leander ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Week.

Rachel Song started her hospitality journey 3 years ago in Travel and Tourism Management, eventually shifting into Lodging and Resort Management. As a junior, she completed rotations both at the Georgetown Sheraton Convention Center and Hotel and the Grove Restaurant, receiving rave reviews from her site managers at the time, specifically for her outgoing and cheerful demeanor.

Throughout her time in the Hospitality program, Rachel has successfully earned her ServSafe Food Handler’s Certification, ServSafe Manager Certification, AHLEI (American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute) Year 1 Certification and her TABC License. She is currently working toward the Year 2 Certification through AHLEI that requires 100 industry experience hours in addition to the certification exam.

As a Practicum Student, Rachel chose for her experience to be completed through a very popular local coffeehouse. Rachel’s site supervisors have been so impressed with her and all that she has accomplished this year that a possible career opportunity has emerged. She is easy to work with, great with customers and an innovative thinker.

“Rachel has made teaching Hospitality and its principles FUN! She exudes all the qualities of someone who will be very successful in the industry someday and I am beyond thrilled to have been a part of her journey,” CTE Department Chair and Hospitality Teacher Jodi Garner said. “She is a creative problem solver, is able to think outside of the box and makes friends everywhere she goes. I look forward to seeing what she accomplishes after graduation!”
