Leander ISD would like to congratulate Leander High School FFA standout Kayla Gillen for being named the LISD Career and Technical (CTE) Student of the Week. Kayla, an IB student, is a Texas State Floral Association Level 1 Floral Design Certified student. The standout junior is now in Advanced Floral working towards her Level 2 Certification. She is hoping to continue her floral career while in college.
“Kayla continuously puts forth excellent effort in all of her assignments and designs,” advisor Janie Pluenneke said. “She has made several arrangements, without instruction, for events and functions here at Leander High School. In addition, Kayla has asked to start a floral service organization in which students who do not want their arrangements they made here at school, be donated to hospice care, memory care, or any other medical/senior service organizations. She continuously volunteers for community service here at the high school using her floral skills. She is a leader and partner in learning when it comes to the other students!”
