Trustees approve temporary mask requirement, safety protocols

Trustees approved our response to the ongoing surge of COVID-19 in our community, including the temporary mask mandate that extends through Sept. 10, 2021. The Board will review the policy in light of the data at its Sept. 9 meeting and may opt to extend the requirement.

Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., outlined the latest information in the district’s effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 on our campuses. We have seen a surge in cases on our campuses and ask our community to do everything they can to help us keep our schools open.

“Dr. Gearing, district and campus staff did a tremendous job last year in using the myriad tools at our disposal to limit campus spread and keep our schools open,” Board President Trish Bode said. “Despite being hamstrung by limited support and resources this year, they continue to search for innovative ways to put safety first while focusing on creating the very best learning environments for our students. The Trustees’ resolution of support for these commendable efforts aligns with our Board vision statement with respect to accountability as we make decisions moving forward.”

Board approves extended COVID leave for staff

Trustees unanimously adopted the resolution to approve the eight days of COVID Extended Leave for all employees, as well as Teacher Fellows, retroactively from July 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021.

Employees are being encouraged to isolate for 10 calendar days from the day of the positive test or from the time they exhibit symptoms and are presumed probable to have

COVID by district definition or presumed probable to have COVID by their doctor.

Due to the continued surge in COVID-19 cases in the winter of last year, the Board approved extending the 10 days of EPSL leave for all employees, as well as Texas Teacher Fellows, who have not previously used the 10 days, through June 30, 2020.
