Leander ISD has named experienced campus leader Erika Cruz, Ed.D., as the next principal of Early College High School (ECHS).
“I am thrilled to welcome Erika Cruz as the new principal of Early College High School,” said Leander ISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. “Erika brings a wealth of passion and dedication to her new role along with a continued commitment to her students, staff and community. With her leadership, Early College High School is sure to continue thriving as a place where students can grow and excel.”
Cruz assumes the role of principal of ECHS with a proven record in educational leadership.
She most recently served as principal of Danielson Middle School, where she fostered a strong campus culture, led a revision of the school’s mission to better reflect its community, and implemented collaborative strategies to close achievement gaps and support student success. Before that, she was principal of Plain Elementary School.
“It’s an honor to lead a school where excellence, opportunity and belonging are at the heart of everything we do,” Cruz said of her new role. “I can’t wait to partner with our incredible students, families and staff to build on ECHS’ proud traditions and expand the pathways that prepare every Griffin for success in college, career and beyond. Together, we’ll soar to new heights!”
In 2023, Cruz was named an HEB Excellence in Education Top 5 Principals in the State of Texas. Prior to serving in Leander ISD, she served as an assistant principal at Spicewood Elementary School in Round Rock ISD and an assistant principal at Windermere Primary School in Pflugerville ISD.
Cruz completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas and her Masters in Education from Texas State University. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.
