Friday, August 22 marked a historic day for LISD as the district celebrated the swearing in ceremony for the newly established Leander ISD Police Department. Chief Sha Rogers, assistant chief Tricia Mirabelle, sergeant Xavier Horn, sergeant Tonya Reed and police officer Chantal Locke serve as the inaugural LISD police team.
Held at Glenn High School, the swearing in ceremony included an oath of office recited by each officer and the pinning of the badge. Honored guests included city and county officials as well as law enforcement officers from around the state.
The ceremony was the culmination of a years-long process that began in 2023 when the Leander ISD Board of Trustees authorized the creation of a police department to serve LISD students, staff and the broader community. The department was officially established in July of 2025 after receiving approval from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
The Leander ISD Police Department operates 24/7 year-round. Most officers are assigned to specific campuses or patrol areas throughout the district. Officers receive ongoing training in areas including active shooter response, bomb threat procedures, emergency first aid, de-escalation strategies, and defensive tactics.
The mission of the Leander ISD Police Department is to ensure a safe and secure environment where students can learn, employees feel safe to work, and the community can trust the department to ensure everyone’s safety.
