Long-Range Plan
The Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC) wrapped up its work in developing Leander ISD’s first 10-year Long-Range Plan, focused on student learning and anchored in our core beliefs, which takes into consideration the following criteria:
- student access to learning experiences that interest them
- facility optimization
- fiscal responsibility
- changes in population over time
As outlined in the updated 10-year Long-Range Plan presentation the first action item is to provide relief to the population growth at the secondary campuses in the central and north end of the district while optimizing our facilities to remain stable and balanced for a longer time period. Any attendance zoning process needs to meet the parameters of the Long-Range Plan:
Strengthen the student experience
- Establish long-term stability
- Access to choice options
- Elementary: Honor neighborhood school concept
Secondary: Honor neighborhood school concept where we are still able to meet the intent of the Long Range Plan
Prioritize fiscal responsibility
- Maximize usage of district facilities
- Strategic rezoning
- Modified Utilization
- Defer timing of future construction
Secondary Attendance Zoning
At the Nov. 15 Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the Attendance Zoning Charter for the rezoning of the middle schools and high schools.
Unlike previous attendance zonings that often centered on the opening of a new school at the respective level, this upcoming rezoning is meant to accomplish the following two main objectives:
- To provide relief to current enrollment numbers
- To defer the timing of future school construction
This process has begun and the first set of scenarios will be published and released on Jan. 23. The district will be providing opportunities for our community to discuss, ask questions and provide input on scenarios presented. Four in-person and one virtual community forum have been scheduled with an electronic survey to also be sent via Remind on Jan. 23. Both middle and high school scenarios will be discussed at each forum.

Transfer policy
A formal decision on transfer policy is made at the end of the zoning process when the Board adopts the new zone. The new zoning will not take effect until the 2024-25 school year.
