For students to be successful, they must start each day with their best foot forward, and for some, a nutritious meal can make all the difference.

Ashley Winton, a volunteer at Leander Middle School, donates her time to the Backpack Food Program working alongside the school’s PTA and counselors. Together, they purchase food to fill 39 backpacks each week so students can have food over the weekend.

“Ashley will never ask for credit and is a true blessing to our students and school community,” said principal Mark Koller.

Winton single-handedly organizes the backpacks with carefully selected food items that will both appeal to students and have nutritional value. She can often be seen pushing huge grocery carts to and from her car to make sure students never go hungry.

Because of her unwavering commitment in going the extra mile in service to students, Leander ISD recognizes Ashley Winton as Volunteer of the Week.
