For Harvey Sanders, a volunteer at Rutledge Elementary School, no task is too small. From contributing to the success of Watch D.O.G.S. to monitoring in the cafeteria to offering teacher support, he knows well that a smiling face can make all the difference in the world for the children who walk Rutledge’s halls. Serving as a volunteer for nearly 10 years, Sanders is affectionately referred to as the grandparent of the school.

He is on campus three days a week to greet students as they arrive and is an invaluable resource throughout the school day, working behind the scenes cutting out items or making copies to ensure students have access to amazing opportunities. But most importantly, he talks to young and old alike to make sure they know they matter.

“Our school vision is that we empower leaders every day. Harvey is the best role model for leadership for our students,” said Beth Mohler. “He lives and breathes servant leadership.”

Because of his unwavering commitment in going the extra mile in service to students, Leander ISD recognizes Harvey Sanders as Volunteer of the Week.
