The Leander ISD community is invited to submit naming nominations for the district’s first Early Childhood Center building. The deadline is Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.

The ECC building is currently under construction near the intersection of Halsey Drive and San Gabriel Parkway in northern Leander. 

Funded by the 2023 Bond, the school is scheduled to welcome its first class of PreK and Early Childhood Special Education students in the 2026–27 school year. When it opens, it will relieve capacity at northern elementary schools, currently projected to include: Bagdad, Hisle, Larkspur, North, Plain and Tarvin.

A committee will be formed for the naming of the building, with its membership aligned to the criteria set forth in the facility’s Board-approved charter. The committee will review each nomination for the building and will then make a naming recommendation to the Board in January.

Per Policy CW (Local), a new building shall be named for one of the following:

  • Historical or geographical site or community;
  • Deceased, significant individual;
  • Local, state, or national historical event or place;
  • Significant state or national figure; or
  • A person who has made a significant contribution to education in the District.

About the Program

Leander ISD’s Early Childhood Education services exist to build a strong foundation so that each child is ready to be challenged, encouraged and supported to achieve their highest level of knowledge, skills and character.

The Early Childhood Special Education program serves eligible students ages 3 to 5 and the PreK program serves 3- and 4-year-olds.

Prior to the construction of the new campus, the programs were housed in elementary schools with available space. The Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC) proposed the ECC project to help manage growth in the northern part of the district. It was approved by the Bond Oversight Committee and then the Board of Trustees.
