Kelly Fitzgerald joins Cox Elementary as the school’s new principal after the Board approved her move to this position at Thursday’s meeting.

“Please join me in welcoming Kelly Fitzgerald as the new principal for Cox Elementary,” Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., said. “Kelly is a passionate leader with an extensive K-12 instructional background. Her dedication to student growth, staff empowerment, and deep commitment to parent partnership will serve to enhance the culture of success at Cox Elementary. “

Before joining LISD, Fitzgerald spent five years teaching first, third and fourth grade in Aldine ISD. In 2009, Fitzgerald began her career in LISD as an elementary math curriculum facilitator and specialist before supporting the district as a K-12 research and development technology specialist and K-12 online learning integration specialist. In 2016, she became the instructional coach at Rouse High School before shifting to the administrative role of Dean of Instruction in 2019. 

“I am incredibly honored and elated to be joining Cox Elementary!” Fitzgerald said. “I look forward to working alongside the fantastic staff, students and families as we partner to ensure every Comet thrives in a positive and collaborative learning environment. I am eager to begin the work, and I look forward to building strong relationships with my new Cox family.”

Fitzgerald attended Pepperdine University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1996 and a Master of Arts in Education in 2004. She completed additional master’s level work at Lamar University and obtained her principal certification.
