Leander ISD Transportation Department received the 2018 Air Central Texas Outstanding Organization Award during the 2018 Air Central Texas Texas Awards. Transportation was recognized for the adoption and advocacy of propane-fueled school buses, reducing the Nitrogen Oxide emission by 1,488 pounds annually.

“We are honored to be recognized as an Outstanding Organization by Air Central Texas and Lone Star Clean Fuel Alliance,” Leander ISD Transportation Director Ann Hatton said. “We strive to not only teach our students to be stewards for the environment, but to model it as well.”

Leander ISD will continue to purchase fuel-efficient buses as it overhauls its aging transportation fleet. Approximately 60 new buses are slated to join the fleet by the start of the 2019–20 school year.
