From Nov. 7-11, Leander ISD is celebrating the Plant Services department, which includes the grounds crew and maintenance employees throughout the district.

The Plant Services team of more than 100 employees works tirelessly to keep all LISD facilities in top shape. They maintain more than 7 million square feet of buildings, 140-plus acres of rooftop, roughly 1,800 acres of grass and 114 play areas. These employees are on their feet and problem-solving day after day to keep the district running smoothly.

Building Maintenance Technician David Murdoch said that although all of the tools he keeps on hand are important for his job, there is one thing that he uses every single day: common sense.

“All of my tools are important, but the one tool I can’t live without in my job is just using my common sense,” Murdoch said. “Common sense allows me to assess the situation, stay safe and use the right tool for the job.”
