A Leander ISD middle school student has captured the attention of Baylor University as part of its Talent Identification Program (TIP).
Colin Moore is a seventh grade student at Cedar Park Middle School and has been recognized as a Baylor TIP Scholar. Moore earned this achievement by taking a test similar to an SAT or ACT and earning scores that are typical of college-bound high school seniors.
Being recognized as a Baylor TIP Scholar signifies that a student has exceptional academic potential and a commitment to developing their talents.
Reflecting on this recognition, Moore says his teachers have played an important role in furthering his academic goals.
“My QUEST teachers have really inspired me to think outside the box and have supported me on challenging school assignments,” Moore said. “They also provide regular check-ins to make sure I’m staying on track.”
With the TIP Scholar designation, students are offered opportunities to take classes at Baylor University that are designed to nurture their scholarly growth.
By participating in Baylor TIP programs, scholars engage with college-level content taught by experts in their fields, collaborate with like-minded peers from around the country, and receive mentorship aimed at transforming their potential into exceptional academic talent.
At a young age, Moore has already reached one of his goals. “This honor means that I’ve reached one of my most important academic goals, which is to be recognized by a respected university.”
Michelle Kane is Moore’s QUEST teacher at Cedar Park Middle School. She says that the opportunity to take advanced courses as well as student choice are essential to helping students find their path.
“Our students in QUEST have a unique opportunity to take a class that focuses on skills that will help them be successful in their futures, regardless of what they choose to do,” Kane said. “By continuing to support this program through the grade levels, we not only support our gifted and talented students, we also build a better community.”
Offering advanced academic programming is a high priority in Leander ISD, with the belief that all learners should be encouraged to access opportunities provided by advanced coursework.
