Belated congratulations are in order for Class of 2023 graduates of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. This group of students walked the stage with their classmates in May 2023 to receive their high school diploma; however, it was not until July when the results of the IB exam were finalized. Hosting the ceremony in December allows for Leander HS to welcome back many of the students returning home during winter break of their freshman year of college.
“This is a special group of students who met the challenge and rigor of IB,” said Shawn Doctor, the IB coordinator at LHS.
The IB Diploma Programme is a comprehensive, internationally recognized, two-year advanced academic program that begins in a student’s junior year of high school. The IB DP is recognized and respected by the world’s leading universities because it offers a challenging and comprehensive curriculum that academically prepares students for the rigor of college. Additionally, IB DP students may receive college credit, including at least 24 hours at all Texas public universities for students who achieve the IB Diploma.
In Leander ISD, the IB Diploma Programme is also hosted at Vandegrift HS. VHS plans to welcome back its graduates in January.
