Leander ISD is proud to announce Michael Blackmon as the next principal of Larkspur Elementary School. The Board of Trustees approved his hiring at Thursday’s meeting.

“Michael is a relationship-centered leader who is committed to building strong teams, fostering collaboration, and creating a positive school culture where students and staff can thrive,” said Leander ISD Superintendent Chris Clark, Ed.D. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a thoughtful approach to continuous improvement, invested in the growth of others, and valued meaningful partnerships with families. I am excited to welcome Michael as principal and look forward to the leadership he will bring to this school community.”

Blackmon has served as Larkspur Elementary’s assistant principal since 2019. Throughout his campus leadership experience, he has worked with teachers to plan instruction and review student progress, supported academic and social-emotional learning and developed action plans based on campus needs. His leadership experience also includes mentoring new assistant principals and leading professional learning designed around the needs of staff.

Blackmon began his career in education in 2008 as an instructional assistant at Giddens Elementary. He later taught second and fourth grade at Giddens and fourth grade at Westside Elementary before moving into administration as an assistant principal at Plain Elementary in 2018. The following year, he joined the Larkspur community.

“I am honored to continue serving the Larkspur community, staff and students,” Blackmon said. “Together, we’ll build on our strong foundation and continue to create a place where all students are safe, supported, and inspired to learn. At Larkspur, we strive to meet the needs of each and every student to learn, grow and succeed! With partnership from our amazing community and staff, we will be EPIC together! Go Lightning!”

Blackmon earned a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies from Texas State University in 2010. He received his master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2017. Blackmon also completed the Leander ISD Prospective Principal Program.
