Congratulations to Vandegrift High School senior Amelia “Mimi” Nickerson for being named the LISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Month. Mimi has been a DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) member since her freshman year, making it to DECA’s International Career Development Conference every year.
In 2018-19 she and her partner advanced to the final round of competition with their innovation plan for a product inspired by their love of soccer. She was one of only a handful of Leander ISD students to advance this far and is the only member of the senior class that made it to ICDC on every attempt. Mimi’s peers recognize her as a leader and have voted her VHS DECA President in the 2019-20 school year.
“VHS DECA is blessed to have Mimi at the helm as chapter president this year,” said VHS DECA advisor Kari Michalek.” I can trust that our chapter will thrive under her quiet but intentional leadership.”
Mimi was also a student in the inaugural 2018-19 VHS INCubatoredu class. Now in ACCelerator, Mimi is using her knowledge of coding, her passion for business and her excellent work ethic to help her team, Archons, form their LLC this fall and continue to move forward with their business.
Congratulations to Mimi Nickerson, from Vandegrift High School, the Leander ISD CTE Student of the Week!
