Her devotion to animal care is more than just a pet project. Leander High School senior Maddy Clark is grooming her way to success as Leander ISD’s CTE Student of the Week.

For the past four years, Maddy has studied Agriculture Science, focusing on veterinary medicine. Currently, she’s getting hands-on experience in a veterinary clinic, so that she can earn certification as a Level 1 Veterinary Assistant–the first step in providing animal care. However, the course also requires an intense amount of study, which comes naturally to Maddy.

“Maddy has a passion for veterinary medicine and is one of the hardest working students I have had the pleasure of teaching,” LHS Agriculture Science teacher Emily Veraa said. “She asks thoughtful questions, always volunteers to help, and shows a true passion for animal science.”

Even in her spare time, Maddy can’t help but want to create her own animal planet, raising a goat and rabbit with Leander FFA’s Livestock Show Team. As a junior, she joined Veterinary Medicine Career and Development Events (CDE) – a competition designed to challenge student skill with real-world scenarios.

Maddy sees herself majoring in a pre-vet program, furthering her studies in Veterinary Medicine. Congratulations, Maddy for turning an untamed heart for all living things into a livelihood!
