We’re celebrating LISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Week Emily Burtner for her willingness to take her love for healthcare and explore a real-world lesson in a pandemic.

As a junior at Leander High School, Emily is studying the Principles of Health Science. She’s carried her pursuit of excellence from the classroom to the chatroom. Logging into her virtual meetings, Emily ensures she has all her work completed and clarifies any confusion she may be having.

“We have had some ‘off-topic’ conversations about the current pandemic and she seems to be very informed on what is going on,” LHS health science instructor Kelly Deputy said. “She has taken it upon herself to research beyond social media and find researched facts. This is something a lot of adults fail at doing.”

Emily respects her teachers as well as her peers with a genuine desire to help others.  Her exemplary character shines through her compassion, honesty, responsibility, optimism, and loyalty. A dedicated Lady Lions Volleyball player, Emily also serves as an active participant and officer in LHS’ Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).

For being a natural leader and a compassionate person who will excel in the healthcare industry, congratulations Emily Burtner–LISD CTE Student of the Week!
