Leander ISD is pleased to announce Darla Smith as the Wiley Middle School Principal after the Board approved the position at Thursday’s Board meeting.

“Darla is a focused leader who values and understands that relationships coupled with consistent and high expectations drive positive school culture,” Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., said. “We look forward to seeing her journey continue with LISD and in the Rouse feeder pattern.”

Smith has been with Leander ISD since 2006, most recently serving as associate principal at Rouse High School. Before that, she served at Leander Middle School as the lead assistant principal and at Cedar Park Middle School as the seventh grade department head. She has served in numerous other leadership and coaching roles in Leander ISD, Austin ISD and Noble Public Schools in Oklahoma.

Smith said that she is thrilled to be named the Wiley Middle School Principal.

“I have been a part of this community for the past 18 years, so leading a local neighborhood middle school is very exciting to me,” Smith said. “I am eager to partner with parents, staff and students to create an inclusive school community where everyone is supported as we grow and learn together. I look forward to the journey ahead of us. Let’s Go, Coyotes!”

Smith received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Oklahoma State University. She went on to complete her Masters of Education in Administration at Texas A&M University. Additionally, she has obtained a Principal’s Certification and completed the LISD Prospective Principal Program.
