Opened in the fall of 2000, Leander ISD’s third middle school — Running Brushy Middle School — is named after the original post office for the community that eventually became what is now Cedar Park. Running Brush derived from a local spring, whose constant flow served as the all-important source of drinking water for the area’s first settlers.
The school opened to 1,100 students, which selected their school’s mascot — the Cougar — and the school colors: navy blue, silver and white.
