Leander ISD Board of Trustees approved a revised bell schedule that will impact the 2022-23 school year. During the June 13 Board meeting, members voted to place Bus Route Redesign and Bell Schedule on the June 23 agenda. During the meeting, Board members voted to amend the recommendation, approving the following start times:

  • Elementary – 7:30 am to 2:45 pm (shifts 10 min earlier)
  • HIGH School – 8:15 am to 3:35 pm (shifts 25 min earlier)
  • MIDDLE School – 9:05 am to 4:20 pm (shifts 55 min later)

Board members were concerned about how a late start time would impact high school students who work, provide care for siblings and their involvement in extracurricular activities.

Changes to the bell schedule emanated from the need to re-examine our transportation needs as a district. Staffing shortages and major growth were causing undue hardships for the department. By taking a deeper look at bus route effectiveness and efficiency, a study recommended 45-55 minutes between each levels’ start/end times.

In May, we communicated the proposed bell schedule changes and solicited feedback. Since then, the district, alongside the Board, have been trying to work through concerns as there is compelling feedback from all stakeholders involved.

We realize some families and staff will have to make adjustments and may have questions. Considering this as an opportunity to continuously improve, we welcome your feedback and comments through Let’s Talk.

Please be advised the district is closed Friday, June 24-Monday, July 4. We anticipate sending more information when we return.
