Opened in 2014, Leander ISD’s 24th elementary school — Officer Leonard A. Reed Elementary School — is named after Cedar Park Police Officer Leonard Allen Reed, who lost his life in an accident while on duty in August of 2010. Officer Reed was a deeply respected member of both the law enforcement and Cedar Park community, and he was admired for his passion for helping others.

Officer Reed grew up in Austin. A Gulf War veteran, he served with the Cedar Park Police for four years. In 2008, he was named Officer of the Year. As a school resource officer at Vista Ridge High School, he was widely known as a positive role model and mentor to young people who looked to Officer Reed as someone they could turn to when they needed help.

The naming of this elementary school honors Officer Reed’s commitment to making a positive difference for others.
