Ethan Smith has gained a great appreciation for active listening and its importance in engaging and motivating students. As a volunteer at Reed Elementary since the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, he’s had the chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at life in the classroom.
“Volunteering allows parents to see what stressors the teachers go through to educate our kids,” said Smith. “I get to see up close what the teachers have to do, and this helps me appreciate their work even more.”
Smith is a military veteran and student at Austin Community College who takes great pride in giving back to his child’s school through volunteering. He hopes to join more programs and search for other ways to help more parents get involved at school, especially families of color.
“We want to recognize Mr. Smith as an exceptional volunteer. We call out to request parent volunteers at the beginning of every year, and Mr. Smith answered that call,” said Reed Principal Paige Collier. “He has made an impact on our students by building relationships and motivating them to do their best in school. Thank you, Mr. Smith, for your involvement at Reed!”
Because of his unwavering dedication in service to students, Leander ISD recognizes Ethan Smith as Volunteer of the Week.
