The Glenn Grizzlies will welcome a seasoned school leader to the district’s newest high school. Shawn Miller, Ph.D., joins Leander ISD with campus leadership experience at the elementary, middle and high school levels, most recently at Cooper Junior High in Wylie ISD. The Leander Board of Trustees approved Miller’s hiring Thursday night.
“Shawn is an experienced principal with a deep understanding of instructional leadership,” Leander ISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. said. “He has a passion for creating systems to ensure every student is connected to the school and collaborates with teachers to provide learning environments where students can excel. Beyond this, Shawn’s ability to create strong relationships with students, staff and parents will only build upon the established culture at Glenn High School and propel it forward.”
Dr. Miller has spent the last several years of his career at Wylie ISD–a district made up of more than 17,000 students, northeast of Dallas. Prior to his time at Cooper Junior High, he was an assistant, then associate principal at Wylie East High School. Miller also served as an elementary school assistant principal in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, also in the Dallas area. Miller has roots in Special Education and continued to revisit this area of education throughout his career.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to join the GHS family, and I am looking forward to serving our community,” Miller said. “I feel honored to have been chosen to lead and learn alongside the students and staff at Glenn High School. Go Grizzlies!”
Miller earned his bachelor’s degree in speech communication and a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas State University in San Marcos. In 2017, he earned a Ph.D. for his work in educational leadership from the University of North Texas.
