The Foundation for Music Education has recognized three Leander ISD bands with the Mark of Excellence. This unique competition allows middle and high school varsity bands from across the nation to submit performances judged by highly esteemed adjudicators. The top 25% of performances receive a National Mark of Excellence.

The national winners from LISD are:

Four Points MS Wind Ensemble

“In a year when many of our students did not get the opportunity to compete at UIL, we are so grateful that The Foundation for Music Education offers these kinds of opportunities to recognize the amazing work of these dedicated student musicians.   We are so proud of our students and grateful for such a supportive community at Four Points Middle School!” – Jessica Gonzales, director

Congratulations to the students, teachers and supportive parents who make these accomplishments possible!” – Robert Herrings III, director

Vandegrift HS Varsity Band

Vandegrift HS Wind Ensemble

“I am so proud of our students to have received this recognition for the third consecutive year.  The students completed their recording on March 12, which would end up being our final in-person rehearsal of the 2019-2020 school year.  Regardless of our difficult circumstances, it is remarkable that our students still find ways to be recognized nationally in programs such as The Foundation for Music Education.” – Mike Howard, director

Two Leander ISD non-varsity bands received honors as well with the Citation of Excellence:

  • Four Points MS Symphonic Band directed by Cori Reebenacker
  • Henry MS Concert Band directed by Andrew Binkard

This year’s competition involved 145 bands from 38 states! Congratulations to these outstanding bands and to their dedicated directors!
