Reminder: No school services, including breakfast or lunch, on Friday or Monday

We will be completely closed Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13 as part of our academic calendar. We know our teachers, staff and students have worked hard and can use this scheduled break. We base our employee work calendars around the academic calendar, so there will be no student services during those two days. When our academic calendar has us closed, that includes our breakfast and lunch service. The backpack program that provides food over the weekend coordinated with their students’ families to ensure they have food over the long weekend. We will be back ready to serve on Tuesday.

Grading and report card update

You may be wondering what grading looks like now that the district moved to a pass/incomplete system for six-weeks and nine-weeks grades. For the remainder of the spring 2020 semester, students will receive feedback on progress toward essential learning. Students can show evidence of their learning in a variety of ways through assignments and activities.

  • Elementary  – Your student will receive a pass (P) or incomplete (I) for the semester instead of mastery reported on a list of skills (PK-3rd grade) or a numerical grade (4th-5th grades).  The next parent communication regarding student progress for elementary students will be sent Friday, April 24, 2020. This report will provide parents with information regarding student strengths, areas in need of additional support, and ideas to continue supporting your child at home.
  • Secondary – Your student will receive a pass (P) or incomplete (I) for the six weeks grade instead of a numerical grade. This will occur for the 5th six weeks and the 6th six weeks. Any student receiving an incomplete will continue working with their teacher to reach mastery. When possible, incompletes should be addressed prior to the end of the school year. Due to the unprecedented circumstances, we will be releasing the 5th six weeks report cards for secondary students on Friday, April 24, 2020.

Remote Learning Parent Hub is live

We’re proud to offer resources to families via the district’s Remote Learning Parent Hub.

This site is designed to provide supplemental academic and student mental health and wellness resources and offers multiple content areas, including:

The content area resources support parents looking for additional ideas AFTER students have already engaged in the learning experiences shared by their teacher.

Zoom information for families

We’re committed to the safety of our students and staff even in online settings. There are a multitude of platforms available to our remote learners, including Zoom, a video conferencing program. Zoom allows students to join as participants within meetings created by their teachers. Our educators are using the highest settings suggested for security including waiting rooms, host only screen sharing, and password protected meetings. Our instructional technology team has put together resources for families in the Parent Remote Learning Hub.

LISD Virtual Job Fair is live

The district’s Virtual Teacher Job Fair is underway. If you or someone you know is a heroic educator and interested in joining LISD, we invite you to check out this exciting opportunity to get in front of our campus leaders!

Applicants can access the Virtual Teacher Job Fair through the Flipgrid app, then upload a video to their campus or department they’re interested in. The virtual job fair runs through April 22.

Future communications regarding COVID-19

It is incredibly important that we continue to communicate clearly and thoroughly about the district’s ongoing efforts to support our teachers, students and families during this crisis

In addition to any urgent concerns regarding safety, changes in our operational plans, or changes/cancellations of major events, families can expect future COVID-19 updates on Fridays. Update #21 will be our Board Briefs from the April 16 meeting.
